Thatcher Burger
Kitchen 88 - American Fork, UT
January 10, 2020
If you go to Kitchen 88 looking for a burger, you will have a difficult time finding options. They serve many things, but the humble Thatcher stands supremely alone in their burger section.
The Thatcher is the only burger served at Kitchen 88. Were there burgers at Kitchen 88 before the Thatcher burger? What happened to them? Did the Thatcher “dispose” of them until it reigned supreme? What were the other 87 kitchens for? Perhaps it took them 87 burger failures until they finally created something of excellency on the 88th attempt. The Thatcher is an exquisite experience that combines caramelized onions, pickles and a clever combination of condiment sauces into something that will leave you grateful you didn’t have to try every burger on the menu to finally discover this. This would have scored a 10 if it weren’t for two minor details: The first is that the pickles were slightly out of place tasting, they are a little on the more tart side with an otherwise sweet-tasting burger. The second was that the sauce, however delicious, was applied in great quanitites. This caused the burger to become less delicious the longer I waited as it was soon a soggy mess after about 6 minutes. The moral of this story is that if your food comes first, everyone in your party should understand why you are going to dig in without waiting for theirs to come as well.
In a world of little variance in fries, I was thoroughly pleased and rejuvenated after consuming my order of Sweet Potato fries. I don’t ever know how to describe what makes a fry great, but I know how to describe when it is bad and none of those apply here. These fries score a perfect 10 for both their flavor as well as their companion fry sauce. Well done, Kitchen 88.
